My name is Cathy Golonka and I grew up in the south suburbs of Chicago, but then moved to Northwest Indiana right before high school. Thank God I didn’t move far. I could never imagine living any where else, even some place like Hawaii. Chicago has become a part of me and it makes me feel alive. The atmosphere fits me so well: fun, busy, and spontaneous. I love how you can fully experience every season to its’ fullest. Every summer is hot and perfect for tanning, everything turns a beautiful amber in fall, winter has just enough snow days from school, and spring has the perfect breeze for pre summer activities. I love being so close to the beach I could go in an instant. I could live in the suburbs, but still run to the city any time I need excitement. But let’s not forget about the amazing food: Chicago pizza, Chicago style hot dogs, you can never go wrong. Yeah, I get made fun of for my accent, but it doesn’t embarrass me. I’m proud to sound like I’m from Chicago so everyone can know it. To me it’s the perfect location and ambiance, and I will forever be proud to be a Chicago girl.

College

I am currently a junior at Indiana University. When I came here freshman year I was intending on studying Interior Design. When that went horribly different from how I thought it would be, I fell in love with my fundamentals drawing class. After exploring the options, I decided to try being an art teacher. Two years later and I am still in love with the idea. The drawing class is what helped me realize I wanted to pursue something with art, but it was art history classes that help me solidify my desire to teach it. Something about it captivated me, and I suddenly wanted to share my love for it with everyone. I wanted everyone to get as excited as I did about art history. Finding out all the hidden meanings, symbols, and styles made me feel like a detective trying to solve a mystery. I want to take as many art history and studio classes possible to broaden my knowledge as wide as possible so I can better teach my class and hopefully find some way to excite every student.

Favorite Movie

This is my favorite movie, and then of course my favorite television series. What I love about this movie so much is the unbreakable friendship that the four girls share. Yes, the drama with the boys is entertaining, but I think their group of friendship is something every girl wants to have. Growing up I was an only child, so my closest girl friends became like sisters to me. Friendship is everything to me, and it is very hard to find a true and honest friend that would be there for you through anything. Over the years I’ve been very disappointed in this search, but I just think being able to have that kind of friendship comes with maturity. Watching them through the series and finally the movie gives me hope and makes me value every friend I have. My best friends are my core and they hold me together.

Best Friends

These three girls are that core I was just talking about. We’ve been through almost everything together and still love each other despite anything that has happened. We know each others strengths and weaknesses, and how to help when their falling apart. I know no matter what or when I need something, they will be there for me. Not only are they great supporters, but I can always have fun with them. We could be staying in and watching a movie and I still end up in tears of laugher. This should all be true in any great friendship, and I’m just really lucky to have found it

Boy Friend

Not only do I have a solid core group of three amazing friends, but I am also fortunate enough to have an amazing boyfriend. To be honest, I don’t think I would be where I am today with out him. He pushes me and motivates me every day to do my best, because with out him I would have given up by now. I believe we force the best out of each other. My three best friends don’t go to IU, and he does an unbelievable job of stepping in for them when I need them. I guess you could say he’s my fourth and most important best friend.

Favorite Graphics

I really like these images. I am very interested in nature, but also the artificial world of fairies. I like the Celtic butterfly because I love the interlock of lines and curves. I have always thought depictions of fairies were beautiful; maybe I was influenced by how much my older sister liked them though. My room use to be covered with moons and starts of all kinds, something about it really draws me to their graphic design. I love lots of movement, color, and, sparkle in a picture; I tend to be kind of showy. I branch out from here but these are my favorite focuses.
